Weekend Recap 25

This weekend was just too good to list things out like I normally do. I wanted to give some room to babble on about our families and the holidays.

We were fortunate enough to celebrate Christmas with both of our families. Without too much planning, it really fell into place perfectly. Dillon’s family had planned to get together for dinner with the whole family- grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. We planned to spend time with my family the day before.

What was really incredible though was that my sister Catherine and her fiancé were able to swing a surprise trip this weekend, too. She had let Dill and I know ahead of time, but surprised my parents and Cara. Both my mom and dad worked to have a late Friday Christmas dinner- turkey, mashed potatoes, the whole nine yards.  Much to our surprise, Santa even came a bit early for all of us.

Saturday evening was spent eating dinner and catching up with Dillon’s family. We played games together and laughed over shared stories. We felt so lucky to be able to see so many extended family members.

There is absolutely nothing quite like Christmas time with your family. Even though it wasn’t December 25th, it felt like the real deal. We’re infinitely grateful to be able to so easily see both of our families together. Mother Teresa said, “If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.” It becomes really easy to forget this, especially at this time. To get wrapped up in last minute holiday shopping or the scramble in school before winter break. But at the end of the day, there is nothing more important in this world than the people you love.

Here’s to a busy last week before all the joys of Christmas!
