Nothing says “I love you” like some good reads right?!

No, seriously.  I think books are the gifts that keep on giving.  This year I decided to gift Dillon (and myself) some new reading material for Valentine’s Day!

Since we’ve been working on a journal for our marriage, I’ve been wanting to find some books for us to read this first year, too.  Many bloggers I follow swear by A Severe Mercy by Sheldon Vanauken, close friend of C.S. Lewis. It is an autobiography of his life and marriage and search of faith. I thought this would be a good one to start come Lent.  I bought both Dillon and I a copy from Amazon for us to mark up and make our own.

I also purchased some books about creativity for us to read individually.  I started with Twyla Tharp’s The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It for Life.  This book digs deep into the philosophy about habit, routine, and discipline to foster creativity.  Now, that is speaking my language! I am loving this book, so far (I really look forward to reading it over my lunch breaks), and absolutely intend to write a book review for ya’ll to enjoy.

I love reading.  I remember in fourth grade when I physically couldn’t put down The Giver by Lois Lowry.  I begged my mom to let me stay home from basketball practice to let me finish.  Since then, I’ve craved those can’t-put-em- down kind of books.  Some of my favorite books throughout my life I’ve spent finishing in the wee hours of the morning, teary eyed.  My mom loves to read, and always has a current book she’s on. (I’ve loved sharing a kindle account with her, because YES TO ALL THE TITLES) My dad always said that after he married my mom, he never went without a book on his bed side table.

There’s romance in reading, and I love that this is something I will forever be able to do with Dillon.
