Note- I use “homeschool” very loosely…

Right now, I’m making things up as I go along (I don’t think I will formally homeschool the girls at this point, but never say never!). I’m just trying to meet the girls where they’re at, while offering challenges to move their learning along. For Jane, things are simple: fine motor activities, colors, shapes, animals. For Nora, things get a bit more complex. We’re working on phonemic awareness and early phonics learning, and thankfully she really enjoys it. So, the teacher part of me is really loving diving into the mechanics of reading.

And while that sounds like a lot, most mornings we get maybe twenty minutes if we’re lucky before we’re busying ourselves with something else to do. And honestly, if all we achieve each day is a calm start to the morning, then I consider that quite a win.

Because our winter days this year have been really busy. We’ve got the girls in plenty of classes; which on the cold bitter days sometimes I resent. But, I much prefer getting out of the house at least once a day even if it’s a hassle getting out little crew out the door.

As a family we’ve been busy this year with trips little and big: a big family trip to Florida, overnight to a waterpark, and most recently, a weekend trip to the Northwoods. So in between the winter days, we’ve squeezed in plenty of fun already in the handful of weekends in 2024.

Looking ahead, we’re slowing down our travel a bit and ramping up our home projects. Can’t wait to share some design ideas once we finally land on our vision for the spaces.

Overall though, we’re hitting a nice balance of work and fun for our family and we hope to really lean into that this year.
